We Are at the Wanderlust Festival Tonight

Tonight we are at Maroochydore State High School for the 7th Annual Wanderlust Food and Drinks Festival, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Entry is $5 at the gate. The festival is run by the Year 12 Tourism students. It is part of their assessment, not a fundraiser with the students helping out at the edges. They plan it, approach the local producers, prepare the food and run the stands on the night. We are one of the distilleries they came to. The students looking after our stand have chosen two drinks to serve: an Umami Martini and a Gimlet. The martini is the braver of the two, and it was entirely their idea. I will let them explain it to you on the night, because it is their drink and their reasoning, and they have thought about it far more carefully than I have. The gimlet is the steadier choice, gin and lime, and there is nowhere to hide in it. Between the two you get a fair sense of what they have learned this year. There is more on than our corner of it. Other local breweries and distilleries are there, the students are cooking with ingredients sourced from around the Coast, and there is live music, a raffle and activities for the kids. Because of it, the cellar door is closing early today. We are open from 2pm and shutting at 3.40pm sharp so we can get down there and set up. Normal hours resume tomorrow. If you are coming along, find the stand and say hello to the students rather than to me. It is their night.
